Teachers' Blog Teachers' Blog

Linked with the webinars organised for the project teachers, this blog will display teachers thoughts, plans, ideas and experience with tablets in classroom. After each webinar, the teachers will write a reflective post on the given topic. Along the course of the project, this blog will provide an interesting insight into day to day teaching with tablets.

Blog 1 - Institut d'Enseignement Technique Notre-Dame at Charleroi - Belgium

Introduce your school and your role ...

Hello, I'm Ludovic Roche and I teach French at the Institut Technique Notre-Dame of Charleroi. Actually, I will be the link between the team of teachers embarked on this crazy adventure and the blog.

The population of our school is quite cosmopolitan and comes from different backgrounds so enriching. We offer technical and vocational education in the service of people (hairdressers, beauticians, nurse assistants, activity leaders), art and administrative work . The first degree (the first two years of secondary school) is academic level. There are also two forms for pupils who didn’t get their certificate at the end of primary education. Pupils who fail the first form have to attend a “1S” (a year organized to help pupils in difficulties).

In our school, pupils can be helped in many ways :

  • remedial courses.
  • a group of teachers who help pupils in difficulties to improve their organisation, way of learning,...

Our school encourages every teacher to improve their way of teaching and to be involved in the educational life of a class group. We have two CCM 's, Mac laptops, interactive whiteboards and recently some tablets.

I am / we are currently ...

A team of six teachers who is in charge of a class of 1S (an additional year for pupils who failed the first form). Six motivated persons who are looking for crazy ideas and projects aiming to restore pupils’ confidence about school, themselves and their learning. Our objective is to set up learning in a real context so that pupils can understand what they do and develop autonomy.

Using the tablet, we would like to prepare interdisciplinary courses that meet the educational requirements and have the opportunity to travel and connect to the real world by a different way of learning.

Technologies are developing quickly and education can not miss the opportunity to take advantage of them. It is a new era of education based on differentiation and projects.

What do you achieve by the CCL project? ...

What we would like ... human and educational exchanges across the world and in Belgium.

What will be our biggest challenge? ...

Thanks to the CCL project we would like to plan an educational trip to a European city (Berlin). The pupils will be able to progress in the different subjects through several steps in order to increase their knowledge and use it later.

The teacher is not the source of knowledge anymore but is there to help pupils in looking for information!

Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions.

Identify two key questions ...

  • Isn’t it a risk that the tablet be seen as a way to attract pupils during enrolment?
  • How to motivate each teacher to use new technologies in their lessons?
