Future Classroom Lab

The Future Classroom Lab is created by European Schoolnet, its supporting 30 ministries and industry partners to help visualise how conventional classrooms and other learning spaces can be easily reorganised to support changing styles of teaching and learning. It’s a physical, reconfigurable space composed of an interactive classroom and an open space including five different zones, each of which are equipped with specific furniture and technology. The facility was officially launched in January 2012.

The FCL will be used to:

  • Stimulate discussions and illustrate practice related to a range of current and prospective innovative teaching and learning scenarios.
  • Provide hands-on training facilities for teachers, head teachers and ICT advisers.
  • Act as a venue for meetings, workshops and events for Ministries of Education, regional education authorities and commercial partners.
  • Provide a platform where policy makers, practitioners and ICT suppliers can come together in order to rethink how teaching and learning can take place in 21st century classrooms and other learning spaces.

The CCL project will use Future Classroom Lab to organise workshops and to pilot the teacher training course that will be one of the outputs of the project.

iTEC projectiTEC - Designing the future classroom

iTEC (Innovative Technologies for Engaging Classrooms - http://itec.eun.org) is a major EU-funded project in which European Schoolnet is working with education ministries, technology providers and research organisations to bring about transformation in learning and teaching through the strategic application of learning technology. With 26 project partners, including 14 Ministries of Education, and funding of €9.45 million from the European Commission’s FP7 programme, iTEC is the largest and most strategic project yet undertaken by European Schoolnet and has the potential to be a flagship project for the design of the future classroom. The project lasts from 2010 to 2014.

CCL will use the expertise of the iTEC project for the scenario development. The iTEC project has developed a Future Classroom Scenarios toolkit that is used to create the CCL policy maker scenarios.
